Randolph M. Smith
President and CEO
Randolph (Dolph) Smith brings more than 26 years of business leadership experience to his role as Genesis’ president and chief executive officer. As the company’s visionary leader since 1996, he is responsible for achieving the company’s aggressive profitability and growth goals through expert corporate management and strategic planning. In this capacity, he leverages his successful track record of developing and commercializing plastic welding innovations for the global manufacturing market.
Under Mr. Smith’s leadership, Genesis has experienced significant expansion. Over the past decade the company has grown from eight to 50 employees, quadrupled production capacity and increased revenue four-fold. In addition, Mr. Smith has strengthened Genesis’ capabilities by leading the acquisition of Plastics Welding Technology Inc. and its proprietary RF welding technology.
Concurrent to his role at Genesis, Mr. Smith served for 13 years as president and chief executive officer of Plastics Welding Technology Inc. He has also worked as a senior account executive at Hill-Rom Company, Inc. and as a sales manager at Friden Alcatel. Mr. Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in economics at Indiana University. He serves as the vice chairman for the La Lumiere School Board of Trustees, in La Porte, Ind.
Tom Ryder
Chief Operating Officer
As the chief operating officer at Genesis, Thomas Ryder is responsible for identifying potential customers, developing business relationships, and qualifying new market opportunities in support of the company’s sales goals. In addition, he leads the product development team, account management/customer service group, and develops and manages the marketing and sales infrastructure. Under Mr. Ryder’s leadership, sales revenue has grown eight times over since 2002.
Throughout his 18-year career, Mr. Ryder has held a variety of leadership positions. Prior to joining Genesis, he was the vice president of operations for multi-million dollar vending company, where he helped to successfully position the company for acquisition. Before that, he served as the Retail Operations Manager at Crossmark Inc., managing 46 full-time sales representatives supporting 2,600 stores. He has held the positions of division manager, director of information systems and district manager at Retail Support Force, and operations manager at Marketplace Promotions Inc. In addition, Mr. Ryder served as vice president and co-owner of Promotional Connection Inc. which he successfully positioned for acquisition. He also served as assistant director of marketing for Ulrich Research Services Inc.
Mr. Ryder holds a degree from Florida State College. He is a member of Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI), Specialty Plastics Engineers (SPE) and the Fortville Chamber of Commerce.
Dale A. Wagner
Operations Manager
Dale Wagner brings 27 years of experience in radio frequency engineering applications to his role as operations manager at Genesis. He oversees all manufacturing and production operations to deliver the highest quality products and cost efficiencies. He is responsible for tool design and procurement, equipment analysis and installation, maintenance management, prototype development and documentation, product and cost analysis, process outline, and general contracting and building design.
While at Genesis, Mr. Wagner has steadily increased manufacturing capacity to support product growth through equipment acquisition and facilities management. His expertise in mechanical engineering and RF welding technology has been critical in the evaluation, purchase and installation of additional equipment and manufacturing space, resulting in highly diversified product offerings. In addition, Mr. Wagner oversaw the evaluation, purchase and construction of a clean room at Genesis headquarters to increase the company’s service capabilities for the medical industry.
Before joining Genesis, Mr. Wagner worked as chief operating officer at Parts Unlimited Inc. and as applications engineer at Nemeth Engineering Associates Inc. Mr. Wagner studied mechanical engineering at Indiana University. Together with his wife, Pam, he founded Wag’s Stray Animal Foundation Inc. Through the foundation, the Wagners rescue, rehabilitate, provide medical care, train and offer for adoption abandoned dogs and cats.
Brandon Isles
Product Development Engineer
As Genesis’ product development engineer, Brandon Isles is responsible for designing and developing new products to meet growing customer demand. Experienced in product design, fabrication, testing and evaluation, Mr. Isles works closely with customers to bring new products to market that can be produced on a large scale.
From initial design specifications to market launch, Mr. Isles coordinates all phases of development in compliance with company policies, best practices and government regulations. He is experienced designing and testing parts with CAD-based Finite Element Analysis (FEA), as well as using both manual and CNC-based production methods.
At Genesis, Mr. Isles has coordinated multiple development projects using radio frequency technology. He provides technical support to manufacturing, marketing and sales as needed, and coordinates activities with suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of supplies and services. Previously, Mr. Isles worked as a testing technician at Indiana Mills and Manufacturing Inc. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Integrated Manufacturing Technology from Indiana State University, and is a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
Mark Vermillion brings more than 25 years of experience to his role as sales manager for Genesis. His areas of expertise include new business development, relationship management and customer retention for all markets and industry sectors, including the medical device industry, military, energy and consumer goods.
Mr. Vermillion is a proven leader in the local product manufacturing and supply chain industries and brings a wealth of knowledge from his work in industrial distribution, automotive manufacturing and heavy equipment industries.
Prior to joining Genesis, Mr. Vermillion worked for Wurth Service Supply where he served as director of sales and customer development. He is a skilled presenter in the areas of sales and sales management, customer development and time management.
Mr. Vermillion holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He is past president of the Indiana Industrial Distribution Association and a member of the Industrial Fabrics Association International, National Plastics Association, Conexus Indiana and INpact.
Donna Burns
Production Manager
Donna Burns, production manager at Genesis, supervises the utilization of material, human and mechanical resources to maximize quality, profitability and efficiency. Ms. Burns brings 20 years of management experience in union manufacturing environments and 15 years of machine operator experience to her role. She is responsible for maintaining quality standards and all aspects of production, including inventory and material order scheduling, production scheduling, staffing and shipping/receiving.
Ms. Burns’ accomplishments include the installation of a clean room, increased equipment uptime through effective scheduling and preventive maintenance programs, reduced labor requirements by instituting lean manufacturing methods, employee cross training, and regular productivity analysis. She also has implemented strategies to reduce scrap and rework through employee empowerment, resource allocation and effective root cause analysis.
Prior to joining the company, Ms. Burns held production and operations management positions at Rexnord Link-Belt Chain Division, Rolls-Royce and Oxford Automotive. Ms. Burns studied business administration at the Indiana College of Business. She also has completed coursework through APICS, an organization dedicated to building knowledge and skills in operations management professionals.
Jennifer Lear
Customer Service, Inside Sales
Jennifer Lear brings strong client relations skills to her role as account and inside sales manager at Genesis. Serving as the primary liaison between the company and its customers and prospects, Ms. Lear provides a superior level of customer service that cultivates long-term relationships and results in high customer satisfaction. Additionally, Ms. Lear provides support for trade shows and other sales and marketing initiatives.
Ms. Lear brings to Genesis eight years of professional sales/management experience at notable firms such as Pella Windows, Chicago Title Insurance Company and Indiana Mills and Manufacturing Inc.
Ms. Lear currently is completing coursework for a bachelor’s degree in marketing at Indiana Wesleyan University. Previously, she studied public relations and creative writing at Ball State University. Ms. Lear participates in philanthropic work throughout the greater Indianapolis community through her church and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Dolores E. Davalos
Purchasing Manager
As purchasing manager, Dolores Davalos offers proactive leadership to Genesis’ strategic purchasing decisions. Responsible for finding the best products and materials at the lowest cost, Ms. Davalos negotiates and supervises supply contracts that support the company’s goals for continued growth and profitability, and offers cost-effective solutions for customers. Her duties include purchasing, supply chain management, shipping and receiving, inventory management, policy conformance, vendor interactions, cost control and bookkeeping functions.
Prior to Genesis, Ms. Davalos worked in Quito, Ecuador, as a financial assistant at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), an accounting assistant at the United Nations Development Programme, and as a credit and collection assistant at global chemical company BASF. Ms. Davalos earned a bachelor’s degree in International Business at Equinoctial Technical University (UTE) in Quito, Ecuador.
